Physical Room

The physical impact of traumatic stress shows up in ways we can see, such as muscle tension and headaches, as well as ways we cannot see, such as autonomic nervous system dysregulation. It's imperative to trauma work that we acknowledge this things.

Emotional Room

Whether it's guilt, shame, anxiety, sadness or anger that shows up for you, typically our emotional symptoms show up after our body is dysregulated, but it's the first "signs" we see. Here are resources that can support emotion regulation. 

Mental Room

If a thought is causing suffering, it's likely a cognitive distortion. Recognizing that these self-protective thinking styles can exacerbate our situation, and working through them to  find the threat and using restructuring to defuse them is a skill that, when used frequently, can become a habit and ultimately, be simply "how you handle things." 

Spiritual Room

Spirituality can support mental health through supporting you in the meaning and purpose that you look for in your life. It should give you a sense of your own worth and value. It can help you develop can help you to develop inner strength, peace, hope and optimism.
